What Are the Requirements for Medicaid in North Dakota?

North Dakota Medicaid benefits eligibility groups must be residents of North Dakota as well as U.S. citizens or lawfully admitted aliens. What Are the Income Requirements for Medicaid in North Dakota?

Income levels determine whether an applicant is eligible to receive full Medicaid benefits or partial Medicaid benefits. For example, households of one who earns less than $517 per month may be eligible to receive full Medicaid benefits.

Likewise, households of two who must not exceed $694 monthly, households of three must not exceed $871 monthly, households of four must not exceed $1,048 monthly and households of five must not exceed $1,226. Applicants who meet these Medicaid benefits eligibility income restrictions may be eligible to receive full Medicaid coverage for the entire family.

However, other families who meet Medicaid benefits eligibility including aged, disabled or blind applicants and families who are medically needy but make more than the income restrictions will be responsible for paying a portion of their medical bills.

  • $821 for a household of one
  • $1,108 for households of two
  • $1,394 for households of three
  • $1,680 for households of four
  • $1,967 for households of five

To meet Medicaid eligibility requirements, households of one must not exceed $1,366 monthly, households of two must not exceed $1,842 monthly, households of three must not exceed $2,318 monthly, households of four must not exceed $2,794 monthly and households of five must not exceed $3,270.

Additionally, Medicaid eligibility requirements differ for pregnant women and children younger than 6 years of age. To meet Medicaid eligibility requirements, households of one must not exceed $1,504 monthly, households of two must not exceed $2,029 monthly, households of three must not exceed $2,553 monthly, households of four must not exceed $3,078 monthly and households of five must not exceed $3,602.

What Are the Medicaid Application Guidelines in North Dakota?

Candidates who meet ND Medicaid eligibility requirements may apply for Medicaid in three different ways. Qualifying applicants may apply for Medicaid online, in-person or by mail. Candidates who meet Medicaid eligibility requirements may apply online by submitting a completed Application for Assistance form or they may contact a local social service office to request a mailed application.

Other applicants who meet North Dakota Medicaid benefits eligibility may apply for Medicaid benefits manually. However, the manual application process varies depending on each specific situation:

  • Applicants who are younger than 65 years of age and not disabled should complete an Application for Health Care Coverage form and return it to a local Social Service office. These forms are available through the North Dakota Department of Human Services.
